Leona Hulstein - Rich

LEONA JOAN HULSTEIN-RICH was born on September 5, 1943 to Leenert and Johanna (De Groot) Van Der Linden in Sioux Center, Iowa. Leona was raised in Sioux County where she completed the eighth grade at Hull Christian School. On March 3, 1966 she was united in marriage to Raymond E. Hulstein at the Wayside Chapel of Sioux Center. Leona and Ray resided in Hospers and Alton, Iowa, for a short time before settling in Hull, Iowa. They were blessed with four children. Ray preceded Leona in death on January 19, 1987.

Leona married Harold F. Rich on August 4, 1989 in Hull. Leona and Harold made their home in Hull where they often received their children and grandchildren. Harold preceded Leona in death on July 7, 2000.

Most of Leonas adult life was spent providing delicious meals for others. She worked as a cook at the Holiday Lanes in Sioux Center for a number of years before working in the kitchen of the Sioux Center Community Hospital for 12 years. More recently she enjoyed working at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull as a cook and in their housekeeping department.

Leona was a member of the First Reformed Church of Hull where she was involved in RCW and Circle. She was also active with the Red Hat Ladies and THEOS. Leonas life really evolved around three things: family, cooking and church. Her grandchildren were precious to her, and in her spare time she loved caring for the flowers she grew in her yard and crocheting.

Surviving are her two daughters and sons-in-law: Clarice & Harlan Van Maanen of Hull and their children: Hailey & Jestin; Lisa & Mike Te Velde of Hull and their children: Rebecca & fianc Brent, Robert, Cody & Kayla; son & daughter-in-law, Duane and Judy Hulstein of Orange City and their children: Christopher, Jacquelyn & Kaitlyn; son, Doug Hulstein of Hull and his children: Ashley, Tyler, Aaron & Hannah; step daughter, Linda Peters of Le Mars and stepdaughter and son-in-law, Bione Patton and husband, Mike of Sioux City and children: Cecelia & Zach; along with three step great-grandchildren. Leona is also survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law: Henry & Lucille Van Der Linden of Leota, MN; Albertus & Polly Van Der Linden of Worthington, MN; Adrian & Pam Van Der Linden of Hull; two sisters-in-law: Harriet Van Der Linden of Leota, MN and Wilma Van Der Linden of Kenneth, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leona was preceded in death by her husbands; step son, Robert Ray Hulstein; her parents; brothers: William and John Van Der Linden and infant brother, James Van Der Linden.
