Henrietta Vande Kieft

May 4, 1915 — February 25, 2005

Henrietta (De Jager) Vande Kieft, of Sioux Center, having lived; 89 years, 9 months, 21 days, died Friday February 25, 2005 at the Sioux Center Community Nursing Center.

Henrietta was born to Bernard and Jana (Nyhof) De Jager on May 4, 1915 near Maurice, Iowa. She attended country school near Maurice and later farmed with her brother and sisters. While attending a young peoples society event at the Ireton Christian Reformed Church she met Wilbert Vande Kieft. The young couple married at Wilbert's parents home on January 31, 1934.

Henrietta and Wilbert farmed in various locations in Sioux County until 1960 when they moved to Sioux Center. Henrietta was a housewife and loved to cook. She especially enjoyed baking apple pies, cakes, and cookies for visitors and her family.

In 1975, Henrietta, along with her husband, became the janitors at American State Bank of Sioux Center. They enjoyed cleaning and worked for the bank for twenty years until their retirement in 1995. At that time, they sold their home and moved into the New Homestead apartments of Sioux Center. Later they moved to Franken Manor assisted living, and finally, Henrietta moved the Sioux Center Community Nursing Center in 2001.

Henrietta spent time visiting the sick and shut-ins. She always enjoyed the company of grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Henrietta is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Harold & Kathy of Orange City, IA; four grandchildren: Wanda Vande Kieft of Orange City, Harlan Vande Kieft of Rushmore, MN, Kay & Neal Koole of Maurice, and Brian & Abby Vande Kieft of Aurora, SD; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Vande Kieft and Katie Koole; one sister, Rose De Weerd of Sioux Center, and one sister-in-law, Jo Vande Kieft of Sioux Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Wilbert; her parents; grandson, Paul; two brothers; six sisters and their spouses.
