Abraham “Abe” Hendrickus Bos was born on December 13, 1932 to John and Henrietta (Balfoort) Bos in Patterson, NJ. He spent his youth in both New Jersey and in various locations in western Michigan, as his father filled various teaching and principal positions at Christian schools in Patterson, Beaver Dam, Holland, and Grand Rapids. He was the middle child of three, an older brother, Ralph, and a younger sister, Alice.

After graduation from high school, Abe attended Calvin College, where he studied music and sang with the men's group, Meistersingers. It was during his time at Calvin that he met Helen De Vries, who was a student at South Christian High at the time. After graduating from Calvin in 1955 he served in the military as a chaplain's assistant in the army's 3rd Armed Division in Germany. During his time in Germany he also sang in the chorus and pitched for his unit's fastpitch softball team.

When his active military service was over in 1957 he returned to the U.S. and married Helen. They moved to Hull, IA, where he taught music and German at Western Christian High School. While teaching at Western he also continued his education in music, German, and linguistics and earned a Master's degree from USD in 1963. He took a position at Dordt College in the fall of 1963, where he taught voice, music theory, German, and linguistics. He eventually moved into an administrative role, serving as the Director of student teaching and then as Associate Academic Dean until his retirement. Abe also coached Dordt's golf team for 30 years.

Abe loved gardening, golf, and music. He was a lifetime advocate for Christian education, and served several terms as an elder at First Christian Reformed Church.

Abe is survived by four children: Dawn & Tim Goslinga of Lake Worth, FL, Jim & Glenda Bos of Sioux Center, IA, Mary & Roland Ritzema, of Fond du Lac, WI, and Matt & Teri Bos of Orange City, IA; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Bruce Klanderman, and a sister-in-law, Eunice (De Vries) Buning and her husband, Don.

He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, an infant daughter Ruth, his brother Ralph Bos, and his sister Alice Klanderman.
