Arnola Mae (Schaap) Roos was called to her eternal home on Friday, April 25 at Sioux Center Health after a battle with ALS. She was age 59.

Arnola was born to Arnold & Alberta (Kampman) Schaap in Waterloo, IA on July 11, 1965. She was the 7th of 7 children. Arnola grew up on farms by Austinville, IA and Wellsburg, IA, then lived in Ackley, IA. She went to Excelsior Christian School for grades K-6 then to Ackley-Geneva Junior High and High School where she graduated in 1983. She went on to Dordt College where she majored in Elementary Education, and where she met her husband, Derick. Derick and Arnola married on August 2, 1986 and they graduated from Dordt in 1987. After graduating they moved to Mt Vernon, WA where Arnola taught 3rd grade at Mt Vernon Christian School for one year before starting their family. Over the next five years Derick and Arnola welcomed four children into their family: their daughter, Danielle, in 1988, their twin sons, Kyle and Kody, in 1990, and their son, Micah, in 1993.

Arnola was blessed to be able to stay home to raise their four children until their youngest was in school. In 1998 they moved to Sioux Center, IA where Arnola worked at the Dordt College Bookstore for 12 years and Doelman Financial for 11 years. At both 1st CRC of Mt Vernon and 1st CRC of Sioux Center she was active in the life of the church by serving on various committees and leading and attending Bible Studies. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Family Crisis Center as time allowed. Arnola loved her Lord and Savior, spending time with family and friends, traveling, watching sunsets on the beach, playing cards, and taking walks.

Arnola is survived by her husband of 38 years, Derick, her four children and their spouses, and 8 grandchildren: Danielle (Christian Barnett) of Austin, TX, Kyle (Sarah) and DJ Roos of Wichita, KS, Kody (Paige) Logan, Wyatt, Braxton, and Cooper Roos of Pella, IA, Micah (Samantha) Emery, Sutton, and Wells Roos of Overland Park, KS. She is also survived by her six siblings and their spouses: Arlan (Marcia) Schaap of Dike, IA, Aldon (Joelene) Schaap of Merced, CA, Ardith (Henry) Vis of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Aleeda (John) Vis of Smithers, British Columbia, Ardene (Darren) Huisman of Orange City, IA, Aljean (Stanley) Plooy of Hanford, CA. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Johanna Roos of Sioux Center, IA, sister-in law Dorenda (Nolan) VanGaalen of Sioux Center, IA, brothers-in-law, Jaron (Frances) Roos of Springfield, MO, and Todd Roos of Zillah, WA, along with many nieces and nephews.

Arnola was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold & Alberta Schaap, nephew Carl Vis, father-in-law Herbert Roos, and sister-in-law Isabel Roos.
