Arta Schoep

     Arta Schoep, age 84, of Sioux Center died Sunday, January 26, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in George, IA.

     A funeral service will be held at 10:30am, Friday, January 31, 2020 at Carmel Reformed Church in Carmel, IA with Rev. Mike Pitsenberger officiating. Burial will follow at the Carmel Cemetery.

     Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2020 from 5-8pm with the family present from 6-8pm at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

     The Schoep family prefer memorials be directed to Lutheran Social Services of Sioux Falls, SD or the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home of George, IA.

     Arta Mildred Schuiteman was born on September 12, 1935 to Art and Katherine (Hofland) Schuiteman.  She was raised on a farm Southeast of Sioux Center and attended Sioux Center High School graduating in 1953.  Arta was united in marriage to Marvin John Schoep on April 14, 1954 during a rainstorm, at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, Iowa.  Arta and Marvin moved to Chicago, Illinois, while Marvin was stationed there, she worked at A&P Grocery Store.  They moved to the family farm outside of Hull in 1955, where they raised their family. Arta was a good farm wife helping with the many duties on the farm.  Arta attended Northwest Iowa Community College, taking nursing classes.  She was a CNA at Sioux Center Hospital/Nursing Home, and Royale Meadows for 26 years. 

      She was a member of Carmel Reformed Church.  She was active in Ladies’ Aid, Helping Hands, and a Sunday School teacher.  She enjoyed gardening, and had quite the green thumb with many, many flowers and plants all around the house and garden.  She also enjoyed miniature golf and traveling.  She and Marvin had memorable trips to Hawaii, Panama Canal, and the East Coast.  Her family will remember her as loving and strong.

     Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 66 years, Marvin; children, Marlin (Dawn) Schoep of Cape Coral FL, Bernie Schoep of Sioux Center, IA, and LeAnn Renner of Sibley, IA; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Rose Prins of Sioux Center, IA; sisters-in-law, Jo Ann Vander Berg of Luverne, MN, and Shirley Addink of Inwood, IA. 

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Katherine Schuiteman; infant brother, James; sisters Wilma De Boer, Gert Rozenboom, and Ruth Mulder; son-in-law Randy Renner; father-in-law, Benjamin Schoep, mother-in-law, Jennie Schoep; and sister-in-law, Wilma Heynen.
