Arta Ellen (Klein) Zevenbergen was born March 15, 1930, to John C and Wilhemina (Kraayenbrink) Klein in Sioux Center, IA. She lived on a farm north of Sioux Center and attended Sioux Center Christian and Western Christian High, graduating in 1947. She married Marion Zevenbergen, her “favorite soldier”, on December 15, 1949 after he returned from military service.
They lived in Newkirk and Middleburg for a few years before moving to the farm north of Sioux Center where she grew up. There they started a motel and campground, along with operating the farm and building houses. She is well known as the “wedding dress lady”, operating Custom Bridal for several decades, making over a thousand custom designed wedding dresses and attendant gowns. They retired and moved to town in 1998.
She was an active member of First Christian Reformed in Sioux Center most of her life and was passionate about Christian Education through support and involvement at Sioux Center Christian and Western Christian High. She enjoyed traveling with Marion around the country and even to Europe, and especially enjoyed trips to see her children and grandchildren. She had a fun sense of humor and documented important events in her life in diaries since the age of 12.
