Bernice Devos

     Bernice DeVos, age 88, of Sioux Center, IA passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center, IA.

     A memorial service will take place at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center with Rev. Van Rathbun officiating.

     A time of visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 10:00 AM.

     Due to the Covid-19 mandates, social distancing and masks will be required.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Sioux County Hospice.

     Bernice De Vos was born September 28, 1932 in rural Sioux Center to Teunis and Dena (Zeutenhorst) Jansen.  She received her education in Sioux Center.  Bernice continued her education at the LeMars School of Beauty and became a beautician.  She owned and operated her own shop for many years.  On March 28, 1952 she was united in marriage to Irwin De Vos in Sioux Center, IA.  To this union three children were born.

     Bernice enjoyed sewing and was an exceptional seamstress.  She made clothing and quilts for many years.  She enjoyed camping with her family and friends at a variety of places from Oak Grove near Sioux Center to Spirit Lake and Okoboji.  She loved working in her garden, especially raising flowers as well as feeding and watching birds in her yard.  In February of 2002 she lost her husband Irwin of nearly 50 years.  She continued living in Sioux Center and working as a hairdresser at Royale Meadows Care Center.  

     Bernice loved her family very much.  Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren will hold many fond memories of her.  This past Thursday Bernice passed away at Royale Meadows at the age of 88.  She will be greatly missed.

     She is survived by her daughter, Kay Port of Alton, IA; son, Kent (Evelyn) De Vos of Sioux Center, IA; and daughter, Terese (Rick) Van Ravenswaay of Brookings, SD; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brothers, Cornie (Ann) Jansen of Rock Valley, IA, Ken De Vos of Sioux Center, IA; brothers-in-law, Stan Van Otterloo of Orange City, IA, John Miltenberger of Sloan, IA; sisters, Harriet Tesch of Spencer, IA and Thelma (Ron) Van Zee of Sioux Center, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

     Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband Irwin; son-in-law, Archie Port; Gerdena Jansen, Gordie Miltenberger, Muriel Van Otterloo, Ed and Gert Jansen; Anna and Art Kamerman, Cora and Arend Broek, Eldon Tesch, Willis and Mina Uittenbogaard.
