Bertha Lammers, age 68 of Maurice, Iowa died unexpectedly Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Bill Loefke officiating. Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
Visitation will be Monday, June 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
In lieu of flowers Lammers family prefers memorial be directed to: Inspiration Hills.
Bertha Jean (Doliesager) Lammers was born on August 1, 1952, in Sioux Center, IA, the daughter of Gerrit J. and Minnie (Wyers) Dolieslager. She grew up in the Inwood and Doon, IA areas and later graduated from Central Lyon High School in 1970. After graduation Bertha attended Northwestern College in Orange City, IA, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Education for Secondary Science Education.
On July 3, 1979, she was united in marriage to Harlan D. Lammers in Doon, IA. To this union two sons were born, Matthew and David. The family lived in Hull, IA for a time and then moved to Maurice, IA.
Bertha worked as a teacher at the Little Rock High School in her early years after college, then worked for the Alton Post Office, Sioux Center Post Office, and was Postmaster at the Maurice Post Office until her retirement in 2011.
Bertha was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center and was a RCA Missionary Home Board member. She was very active around the community: Elected to the Sioux County Extension Council and to the Iowa Extension Council Association (IECA) as the Board Member representative for Region 1 (serving the counties of Sioux, Lyon, Osceola, and O’Brien) and tirelessly volunteering with the Sioux County Youth Fair, National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), and working with 4-H.
Bertha is survived by her husband of almost forty-two years, Harlan Lammers of Maurice, IA; two sons of Sioux Center, Matthew Lammers (fiancée, Nicole Oldham and daughter Lacie Oldham) and David Lammers; and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerrit and Minnie Dolieslager; parents-in-law, Dick and Adeline Lammers.
