Carter Mason Van Meeteren

     Carter Van Meeteren, age seven, of Hull, Iowa passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021 at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

     Visitation will be Tuesday, May 25^th from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Carmel Reformed Church with the family present. A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26^th at Carmel Reformed Church with Pastor Steve Van Wyhe officiating. Burial will follow at the Carmel Cemetery.

     Carter Mason Van Meeteren was born on April 25, 2014 in Orange City, Iowa, the son of Eric Van Meeteren and Nicole Melton.  Carter was born with a rare congenital heart defect known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). Carter underwent three open heart surgeries before having a heart transplant in June of 2020.  He recently graduated from kindergarten at Boyden-Hull Elementary.  He will always be remembered for a smile that lit up the room. He loved anything to do with cars, camping, boating and would spend all day swinging if he could. Carter also had a fondness for four-wheeler rides and tagging along in the semi with his dad.

     Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Eric Van Meeteren and Nicole Melton and three siblings: Trevor (6), Harper (2) and Bryer (10 months) of Hull, Iowa; grandma, Glenda Van Meeteren of Hull, Iowa; grandparents, Kevin and Patty Melton of Cherokee, Iowa; great grandma, Betty Valentine of Sioux Center, Iowa; great grandma, Velma Lubeck of Cherokee, Iowa; great grandpa, Bill Melton of Cherokee, Iowa; aunts and uncles, Evan, Lanae and Kendra Van Meeteren, Amber (Ryan) Guenther, their children: Gabriella, Aubrey and Evangeline; Uncle Kinyon Melton and other extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his grandpa, Ron Van Meeteren; great grandpa, Warren Valentine, and great grandparents, Walter and Matilda Van Meeteren; great grandpa, Gaylord Lubeck; and great grandma, Frances Melton.
