Christina “Chris” Cleveringa was born September 26th, 1937, to Pete and Christina Lockhorst in Sioux Center, Iowa. She grew up in Ireton, Iowa where she attended Ireton Public School and graduated in 1956. After graduating, Chris was a secretary for a car dealership in her hometown. Chris was then united in marriage with Garold Cleveringa on August 3rd, 1960, at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center.
Garold and Chris were blessed with 4 children. Once the children attended school, Chris went back to work as a secretary for P&H Wholesale; she then managed Dollar General for 3-4 years. Later on, she delivered flowers at Floral Expressions until she retired. Chris enjoyed baking her famous chocolate chip cookies, embroidery, and making quilts. In her free time, she would attend bible studies at New Life Church and play a good game of canasta. The neighborhood kids knew her as “Grandma Chris”, where she was always ready to exchange a piece of candy for a hug. Not only was she known for her delicious cookies, but for her love and devotion to the Lord and her family.
