Christine E. Schouten, age 93, of Sioux Center, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at the Crown Pointe Care Center in Sioux Center, Iowa.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 25th at Christian Reformed Church in Ireton, IA, Rev. Nathan Kuperus officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hills Cemetery in Ireton, IA.

Christine “Chris” Evelyn Schouten was born on June 21, 1931to John and Elsie (Wassink) Broek in Sioux Center, IA. She attended country schools and Western Christian High School. After her education she worked for Mutual Telephone in Sioux Center, IA. Chris was united in marriage to Peter G. Schouten on January 12, 1955, at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center.
Together they farmed for a few years south of Hawarden, IA, before they moved near Ireton, IA, where they continued farming. They were blessed with three children, Sandi, Shari and Jeff. Chris was a stay-at-home mother, along with helping with the day-to-day operation of the farm.
After her children were raised, she worked various places, such as Craft Marketing Connections and house keeping for families. She was a member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church, active with various church organizations. She especially enjoyed the Golden Hour Society and singing in the church trio. She loved cooking, baking and sharing her food with others. Being the youngest of 11 children, she loved family times with them. They were all so special to her and she told many stories of the fun they all had. She also loved visiting with all her nieces and nephews and telling them stories of their parents. Most of all she enjoyed following her children’s and grandchildren’s activities.
On November 23, 2009, Chris’s husband, Peter died unexpectedly. Chris remained active with family and church functions for several more years, until she entered the Crown Pointe Care Center in Sioux Center, IA in September of 2020. She remained there until this past Wednesday, November 20, 2024, where she died at the age of 93.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Sandi and Warren Vonk of Sioux Center, Shari and Brent Fedders of Boyden and Jeff and Liza Schouten of Orange City; nine grandchildren, Tabbitha (Andy) Bonestroo of Hull, IA, Britney Vonk of Sioux City, IA, Austin (Ashley) Vonk of Hull, IA, Zach (Kalena) Fedders of Ireton, IA, Jonah (Amanda) Fedders of Rock Valley, IA, Anna (Kade) Clarke of Fulda, MN, Ryer, Tanner and Summer Schouten, all of Orange City, IA; four great-grandchildren, Ayden and Crue Bonestroo and Ace and Ava Vonk; three step grandchildren, Jenn (Terry) Vande Vegte, Pete (Jaimee) Vonk, and Karen (Dustin) Hubbling; and ten step great-grandchildren; special friends Effiong and June Bassey, and many special nieces, nephews other extended families and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Peter G. Schouten; her 10 siblings and their spouses: Dave & Cornelia Broek, Arend & Cora Broek, Margaret & Bill De Koter, Nellie & Jim Franken, Mathilda & John Van Beek, Bertha & Clarence Klein, Bill & Ina Broek, Cornie & Berdie Broek, John & Gert Broek, and Elsie & Gaynor Te Grotenhuis, Gerrit & Joyce Schouten and several nieces and nephews.
