Clara Mae Wolterstorff was born on May 20, 1935, to Herman Jr. and Emma (Scheltens) Meyer in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. Clara was raised on a farm near Prinsburg, Minnesota and attended Central Minnesota Christian School through the 10th grade. She then boarded in Hull, Iowa and graduated from Western Christian High School. Clara began teaching grade school at Ocheydan, Iowa and later at Central Christian grade school in Prinsburg.

On November 4, 1955, Clara was joined in marriage to Niclas E. Wolterstorff at the Bunde Christian Reformed Church near Clara City, Minnesota. Over the years, the couple lived in Raymond, Clara City, and Renville, Minnesota. While in Renville Clara worked as a CNA at the Olivia Hospital and the RenVilla Nursing home before becoming the Activities Director at RenVilla for 31 years. At retirement, Clara and Nic moved to Sioux Center, Iowa.

Clara was a member at Bunde CRC, Emden CRC and Faith CRC. She was active in the various churches that she and Nic attended over the years. She attended Bible studies, taught Sunday School and especially loved the Friendship Bible Class. She participated in the Cross Roads Prison Ministry and volunteered for the American Red Cross in communities experiencing a disaster. Clara loved the sewing group at Faith CRC.

Clara, along with Nic, spent many of their retirement years volunteering with RVICS (Roving Volunteers in Christ Service). They spent a month at a time in their fifth wheel trailer volunteering at Christian camps and ministries helping with repairs and improvements. They also volunteered at JFA (Justice For All) on a weekly basis for many years.

In her free time, she enjoyed reading, flower gardening, scrapbooking and being outdoors, camping, hiking and biking. Clara had a great love of nature and choose to be out in God’s Great Creation as much as time allowed.
