Cornelia “Corrie” Schelling, 86 of Sioux Center, Iowa died Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Crown Pointe Care Center in Sioux Center.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, July 8, 2022, at the Netherlands Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. H. Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
A prayer service will take place prior to the funeral service at 1:15 PM at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
Visitation will be held from 5-7PM on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to: Netherlands Reformed Christian School of Rock Valley.
Cornelia A. “Corrie” Schelling was born February 24, 1936, in Dubbeldam, Netherlands, the daughter of Aart and Maria (Norlander) den Hoed. Corrie received her elementary education in the Netherlands. Her parents and family with 9 children moved to the United States in 1947.
Corrie was united in marriage to John Schelling on February 19, 1958, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Following their marriage Corrie and John farmed together near Armour, South Dakota for 8 years before moving to a farm near Rock Valley in 1966. In 1983, they settled on the West edge of Sioux Center. Corrie and John served as custodian for the Netherlands Reformed Church for 24 years.
Corrie was a lifelong member of the Netherlands Reformed Church. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and taking of her cats and kitties.
Those left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Bill (Gertie) den Hoed of Canton, SD, John (Diane) den Hoed of Albany, GA, Mina Sly of Springfield, MO, Aart (Sharon) den Hoed of Quapaw, OK, Piet (Arlene) den Hoed of San Antonio, TX, Maria (Andy) Teunissen of Doon, IA, Arie den Hoed of Rock Valley, IA, Leen (Trudy) den Hoed of Sioux Falls, SD, Abe (Shirley) den Hoed of Hull, IA, Elaine den Hoed of Fort Collins, CO, Walt (Lavonne) den Hoed of Hull, IA, Trudy (Rich) Carstens of MN; along with nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Aart and Maria; husband, John; sister, Wijnanda Versteeg; brothers, Adrian and Leo den Hoed; and sisters-in-law, Betty and Angie den Hoed.
