David Lee Bruinsma

David Lee Bruinsma, age 58 of Rock Valley, Iowa died July 6, 2021 at the Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.  

There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

David Lee Bruinsma was born April 5, 1963, to Byron and Anna Mae (Eshuis) Bruinsma in Sioux Center.  He attended Sioux Center High School before entering the Army National Guard in 1980.  David did his basic training in Ft. Benning, Georgia. 

When he returned to Sioux Center, David worked in construction and for Joe’s Ready Mix.  He married Darla Buyert and lived in Sioux City a few years until moving to Boulder Creek, California, looking for a new start.  David managed a feed store in Boulder Creek.  He met Kathryn Tate, they married and moved to Sacramento, California.  One of David’s favorite places was “The Boardwalk” in Santa Cruz.   While in Sacramento he drove truck. 

In 2007, David returned to Sioux Center, working as an installer putting in feeding and watering systems in hog confinement buildings.  David’s last employer was with Eric Faber of Double Edge Construction.  He took pride in his work.  He was always dependable and a hard worker. 

David had a huge heart and helped everyone even when it meant he would go without.  David loved to be with family and friends, even if it was just sitting around a fire pit.

David was proud to be the father of his 4 children: Joshua, Melissa, Jesse and Tucker he was blessed with 7 grandchildren.  He loved his music and was a huge Elvis fan! 

He is survived by his children; grandchildren; three sisters: LeAnn Helwig of Rock Valley, Linda “Grace” De Bondt of Sioux Center and Lisa (Randy) Timmer of Sioux Center and numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; aunts; uncles and friends.  David will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; a nephew, Jeremey Feekes and numerous Aunts and Uncles.

David fought a hard battle with cancer.  On Tuesday, July 6, 2021, his fight ended.
