 Dorothy Van Voorst age 94 died Sunday, January 15, 2023, at The Views Senior Living of Marion, Iowa.

Refreshments and Family Visitation will be 12:30-2 p.m., Friday, January 20th, 2023 at Carmel Reformed Church, Carmel, IA.

Celebration Service will be 2:30-3:30 p.m. Friday, January 20th, 2023 at Carmel Reformed Church, Carmel, IA. Interment will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, January 20th, 2023 at Carmel Cemetery.

Dorothy Van Voorst 94 years old passed away January 15, 2023 at The Views of Marion, Marion, Iowa.

Dorothy Van Voorst was born June 17, 1928, at the Florence Crittenton Home in Sioux City, IA. She was adopted by Gerrit and Johanna Feekes and raised on a farm north of Carmel, IA.

On August 23, 1945, Dorothy was joined in marriage to Richard H. Van Voorst at the Sioux Center Town Hall. They resided in Hastings, NE, where her husband, Richard, was stationed at the U.S. Naval Ammunition Depot. Dorothy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the First United Methodist Church in Hastings, NE. After her husband was discharged from the United States Marine Corps, they made their home east of Carmel, IA.

Dorothy was an active member of the Carmel Reformed Church. Dorothy taught Sunday School and Catechism at Carmel Reformed Church. She also helped prepare crafts for VBS. She shared with us that the most enjoyable time of her church life was when the Carmel church family decided to build the new church building. She was grateful to be a part of God’s family working together.

Dorothy worked at K-Products for 18-1/2 years. Dorothy served on the Sioux Center Hospital Board and the Sioux County Cancer Board. Dorothy was a member and past president of the Sioux Center VFW Auxiliary.

Dorothy is survived by her six children: Henry (Pam) Van Voorst of Sioux City, IA; Joanne Randall of Munith, MI; Alicia (Dale) Bream of Cedar Rapids, IA; Gary (Ann) Van Voorst of Myrtle Beach, SC; Lyle (Janice) Van Voorst of Hull, IA; Sandra (William) Grebe of Granite City, IL; a special companion/niece Jan De Jong, Carmel, IA; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law: Jacob Van Voorst of Inwood, IA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; granddaughter, Natasha Dee Wilson; Daughter-in-law, Mary (Henry) Van Voorst; sisters and spouses: Tracy De Jong (Tony)-Vermeer (Henry), Bernice (Howard) Loewen; brothers/sisters-in-law: Hermina “Minnie” (William) Van Bochove; John (Tillie) Van Voorst; Gertrude (Henry) Van Beek; Henrietta “Hattie” (John) Rus; Freda Van Voorst; Gerrit (Johanna) Van Voorst; Marie (John) Bakker; and Priscilla (Jack) Dibbet.
