Evelyn Rose Lamfers, age 86, was born June 30, 1935, the daughter of Ralph and Katie (Van Donge) Lammers. She died October 19, 2021, at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center, IA. Evelyn was raised on the family farm west of Sioux Center. She attended country school, Sioux Center Christian, and then graduated Valedictorian of her class from Sioux Center Community School. Evelyn met Fred when her sister Lila began dating his friend Al. On June 12, 1959, they married and made their home in Sioux Center, IA. They welcomed eight children to their family. Fred passed June 24, 2017.
Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, October 22 at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, IA, with Reverend Carl Klompien officiating.
Burial will follow at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.
Visitation with the family present will be Thursday, October 21 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
The Lamfers family prefer memorials be directed to First Christian Reformed Church.
She was a lifelong member of First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, active as a church organist for several years. She enjoyed music, including attending her kids and grandkids school programs. She worked a variety of jobs, including as a secretary, at Van’s Poultry and Carrie Foods.
The joy and primary purpose of her life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed travel, bus trips, and museum visits as well as “fun frolics” such as family vacations, outings, and gatherings.
Left to cherish her memory are her eight children: Brian (Leah) Lamfers of Rock Rapids, IA, Bruce (Carol) Lamfers of Sioux Center, IA, Julie (Ken) Dragstra of Lebanon, IA, Jane Lamfers of Des Moines, IA, Jeanine (Mark) Mixdorf of Grimes, IA, Bradley (Barb) Lamfers of Richfield, MN, Brent Lamfers of Marshall, MN and Janet (Myles) De Jager of Polk City, IA; seventeen grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lila Van Dyk, and Dorothy Mouw and sister-in-law: Judy Reimersma and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick; her parents, Ralph and Katie Lammers; siblings: Frieda Vande Brake, Bertha Schat, Ruth Van Raavensway and Ralph Lammers Jr.; four grandchildren: Chris and Jeffrey Dragstra and Nicholas and Emma De Jager.
