Evonne Gail Taylor was born March 14, 1955 in Sioux Center, Iowa, the daughter of Tony and Pauline (Schut) De Haan. She was raised on family farms near Hawarden and Orange City. She attended Sioux Center Community Schools and graduated in 1973.
Evonne was united in marriage to Douglas C. Taylor on June 22, 1973 at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. They lived in a couple locations in and around Sioux Center before they purchased their current home on an acreage north of Sioux Center in 1980. The couple were blessed with four children, Dan, Deb, David and Dustin.
Evonne worked as a secretary for AmBank Insurance Agency, later known as Perspective Insurance Agency, in Sioux Center for 25 years. She also worked at Avenue Vet Clinic and Kempers Flower House prior to that.
Evonne was a woman of faith. She was a member of First Reformed Church, active with the church choir and as a volunteer with the church library and nursery. She also volunteered at Hope Food Pantry and Sioux County ATLAS. Evonne loved to feed her family, and you could always find a pan of bars on her counter. Every year she would spend many hours outside tending to her beautiful flower beds or working in her greenhouse. She especially loved attending her grandchildren’s games, concerts, and church activities. She was happiest when she was surrounded by the chaos of a house filled with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Evonne’s family will miss how much she loved to laugh and make those around her laugh.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 49 years, Douglas C. Taylor of Sioux Center, IA; four children, Dan (Jennifer) Taylor of Rock Valley, IA, Deb (Gregg) Smith of Sarasota, FL, David (Samantha) Taylor of Rock Valley, IA and Dustin (Becky) Taylor of Sioux Center, IA; nine grandchildren, Jason, Jordan and Jared Taylor, Kaden and Karsen Smith, Jaxon and Elias Taylor, and Lincoln and Mackenzie Taylor; her mother, Pauline De Haan of Sioux Center, IA; a brother, Galen (Lynn) De Haan of Dover Plains, NY; two sisters, Diane (Kevin) Flammang of Granville, IA and Pam Reisma of Sioux Center, IA; two brothers-in-law, Ward Taylor and Wally Taylor, both of Sioux Center, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Tony De Haan; a brother-in-law, Tom Taylor; and a sister-in-law, Joane Taylor.
