As a young man he attended Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. On July 23, 1943 he was united in marriage to Henrietta Van Voorst in Sioux Center. The couple made their home on the place which became the family farm a few miles west of Sioux Center. There they raised their family of 7 children. George and Henrietta attended Netherlands Reformed Church in Sioux Center with their family.

They enjoyed 21 wonderful years of marriage and he loved her very much. George and Chris were current members of Heritage Reformed Church in Hull, IA.
George was a farmer through and through. He enjoyed all the years working and raising his family while they operated a typical farm of dairy cows, hogs, cattle, and crops. Even in his late years he enjoyed rides in the country checking out the crops. George loved his family very much and they will hold many fond memories of their father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great great-grandfather.
A wonderful memory for George was when he and Henrietta and his father Ben traveled to the Netherlands to visit extended family. They came back with great stories of their heritage. Also, the family remembers their Dad and grandpa holding a thrashing bee on their farm with neighbors and friends and community members, food and fun.
