Gerald Harskamp, age 87, of Sioux Center, IA died Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center, IA.
A funeral service will take place at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, IA with Rev. Van Rathbun officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.
Gerald Harskamp was born May 2, 1933 in Hawarden, IA to Gerrit and Hermina (Top) Harskamp. He graduated from Sioux Center High School. Gerald was a member of Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Gerald was united in marriage to Madeline (Toots) Schouten in 1955. To this union three children were born, Denise, Gary and Deann.
He served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957. He Gerald began working for AMPI in 1957 and drove a milk truck collecting milk from area dairy farmers. He also worked as the sexton for Memory Gardens Cemetery for many years.
He was a member of the volunteer fire department in Sioux Center, served on the park board. He also worked as an EMT serving the city of Sioux Center. He and Marion Mouw were the first team to serve as EMT’s in the city of Sioux Center.
He was united in marriage to Alice Essig on August 31, 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Harskamp of Sioux Center, IA; daughter, Denise (Victor) Schiebout of Coon Rapids, MN and daughter, Deann (Doug Gerwulf) Sneller of Sioux Center, IA; and son, Gary (Tammy) Harskamp of Hudson, SD; 17 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; brothers, Dave (Ila) Harskamp of Sioux Center, IA, Ken (Darts) Harskamp of Fort Myers, FL, Bob (Cheryl) Harskamp of Oakdale, CA; brother-in-law, Everet De Bondt of Hudson, SD; in-laws, Sally Kruger, Rose (Duane) Koele, Mary (Keith) Bonnema, Mark (Carol) Bandstra; step-children, Donna (Denny) Spitler of Brandon, SD, Pat (Chris) Segar of Webster City, IA, Mike (Dory) Segar of Webster City, IA; and other extended family members.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Gerrit and Hermina Harskamp; first wife, Toots Harskamp; sister, Harriet De Bondt; brother, John Harskamp; Sisters-in-law, Gayle Harskamp, Allie Harskamp and Phyllis Harskamp; in-laws, Peter Sr (Celia) Schouten; Pete and Bob Schouten.
