Gerrit Vande Hoef

     Gerrit Vande Hoef age 97 of Sioux Center, Iowa died Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at the Hegg Health Center in Rock Valley, IA.

     A funeral service will take place at 1:00 PM, Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center with Rev. H. Hofman officiating.  Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

     Public visitation will be Friday, July 23^rd from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.  Family will not be present. Public visitation will also be Saturday, July 23^rd from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

     The Vande Hoef family prefers memorials be directed to the Netherlands Reformed Christian School of Rock Valley, IA or Regency Retirement Residence of Sioux Center, IA.

     Gerrit Vande Hoef was born on October 24, 1923, near Lebanon, IA, the son of William and Hattie (Hup) Vande Hoef. 

     On February 26, 1948, he was united in marriage to Cornelia “Nellie” Blom. After their marriage they farmed near Sioux Center and moved into town in 1972. His wife, Nellie passed away on October 12, 1989. Gerrit moved to Regency Retirement Residence in 1992. In 2015, Gerrit moved to Franken Manor in Sioux Center, and moved again in June of 2020 to Whispering Heights in Rock Valley.

     Gerrit worked at AMPI Milk Plant for 5 years before starting a 30-year career at Groschopp Shop. He retired in the mid 80’s. He served on the NRC School Board for many years and enjoyed traveling with the bus tours and visiting with friends.

     He is survived by two sisters, Judy Groeneweg and Gertrude Den Boer, both of Rock Valley, IA; two sisters-in-law, Tillie Blom of Rock Valley, IA and Jennie Blom of Corsica, SD; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hattie Vande Hoef; and his wife of 41 years, Nellie Vande Hoef.
