Gerald “Gerry” Juffer was born on February 15, 1946, to Wilmer "Bill" and Jeanette (De Vries) Juffer. Gerry was raised in Sioux Center and enjoyed many escapades around the neighborhood with friends. His first job, at 14 years old, was working for his dad at Sioux Feed and Hatchery. After graduation from Sioux Center High School in 1964, Gerry briefly worked at Mouw Motor Company. He was then employed at CO-OP Gas and Oil, followed by Vos Motor Sales, where he retired in 2008.

Gerry met his wife Wilma (Van Kley) while she was attending Dordt College and waitressing at the Auto Dine Restaurant. Gerry’s friends knew there was ‘something special’ about her when he was willing to drive his Chevy on a gravel road to pick her up for a date. They were united in marriage on July 1, 1970, and made their home in Sioux Center. Gerry was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church, serving several terms as both deacon and elder.  He loved his Lord and church and was a very active member of the 1995 building team.

Gerry enjoyed many hobbies with friends, and over the years he helped build and restore homes. He also operated a lawn care business with good friend, Jeris Brantsen.  In his younger years, he restored cars and passed that passion to his son, Tim, and his grandsons.

In retirement, Gerry enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s school events, and was always looking for ways to help his friends and family with projects. While wintering in Mesa, Arizona, he became involved in building toy cars for the organization ‘Toys for God’s Kids’.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Wilma, of Sioux Center; son, Dan (Laura) Juffer of Adel, Iowa; daughter, Barbara (Matt) Dubbelde of Sioux Center; son, Tim (Michelle) Juffer of Sioux Center; grandchildren Sophie and Aiden Juffer; Lucas, Tanner and Jerad Dubbelde; Megan and Madison Juffer; and multiple in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceding Gerry in death was his father and mother, Bill and Jeanette Juffer; his sister, Adella Hulstein; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred and Mary Van Kley; brother-in-law, Arnold Van Kley; brother-in-law Gerald ‘Joe’ Van Engen; infant nephew, Gerald Van Engen Jr.
