Gertrude Van’t Hul, 98 of Sioux Center, Iowa died Monday, December 7, 2020 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A Funeral service will take place at 10:30 AM Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center with Pastor Nick Koenig officiating. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery in Hull, IA. There will be an opportunity for public viewing beginning at 9:30 until time of service at 10:30 AM at Memorial Funeral Home. Due to current concerns with Covid and Governors mandate, social distancing and mask protocol will be observed. Gertrude (Olivier) Van’t Hul was born on a farm near Hull, Iowa to John and Maggie (Kroon) Olivier on October 17, 1922. She went to school and later taught in the Hull area. She married Donald Van’t Hul on March 20, 1942. After farming for a few years near Hull, Don and Gert purchased a farm south of Colton, SD. They had dairy cows and farmed at that location until 1975.Gert was a great help on the farm, she loved working side by side with Don. In 1975 Don retired from farming and sold his farm. They moved to Sioux Center into an Olivier Readi-built home on the east side of Sioux Center. Don began working as a finish carpenter for that company for several years. Don died on February 12,2006. Gert later moved to Franken Manor where she lived next door to her sister Dorothy until moving to Royale Meadows in February 2019. She was a lifetime member of the Reformed Church and taught Sunday school for many years. Although they never had children, Gert loved children which made her an excellent teacher. Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Dorothy Bomgaars of Sioux Center; as well as her nieces and nephews, Alvern (Barb) Nyhuis, Norman (Sonja) Nyhuis all of Washington, Eileen (David) Dockter of California, Melody (Jerry) De Wit of Alton, IA, Armand (Jami) Olivier of North Carolina and Norwin (Myra) Bomgaars of Orange City, IA. She was preceded in death by husband Don; sister, Nell Nyhuis; brother, Arie Olivier; and in-laws, John Nyhuis, Nick Bomgaars and Esther Olivier; also, a dear nephew, Johnny Nyhuis. The family would like to thank the staffs of Franken Manor and Royale Meadows for the wonderful care and love given to Gertrude.
