Gertrude Visser

November 12, 1924 — April 8, 2020

     Gertrude Visser, age 95, of Ackley, Iowa, formerly of Sioux Center died Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at Grand JiVante Care Center in Ackley.  


     There will be a private family service held on Saturday, April 11, 2020.  We will be live streaming the private graveside service at approximately 1:30 PM.

     Gertrude Visser was born on November 12, 1924 to John and Hilda (Akkerman) DeRuyter in Rock Valley, Iowa.  She received her education through the 8th grade. 

     On July 8, 1943 she was united in marriage to John J Visser. After John was discharged from the army in 1946, they made their home in Sioux Center.

     She made her choice to walk with God, and she and John had an open home for family and friends. They were very helpful in taking the elderly to their church services.  She crocheted many afghans. Gertrude loved watching birds, and collected bird plates and figurines. She liked to work outside with her lawn and flowers. For many years she worked as a nurses’ aide in the nursing home wing of the hospital.

     She is survived by her two sons; Terry (Ellen) Visser of Iowa Falls, Nelson James Visser of Texas, daughter-in-law Marilyn Visser of LeMars, and 6 grandchildren: Lynette (Brent) Nelson, Amy (Lavern) VanLoon, Jim (Deanna)Visser, Karaleen (Carey) French, Kathleen (Brock) Olson, Jamie (Joey) Prescher,  14 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Marjorie Burgers and Teresa Oostra.

     She was preceded in death by her husband John; 3 brothers; Dick, Dan and Neal and 3 sisters; Frances, Margaret and Marie.
