Gloria Fischer

     Gloria Fischer age 94 of Sioux Center, Iowa died Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at the Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center, IA.

     A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at the Carmel Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Mike Pitsenberger officiating. Interment will follow the service in Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley, Iowa.

     A visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 9:30AM at the Carmel Reformed Church.

     Masks and social distancing will be followed.

     In lieu of flowers family wish memorials to be directed to the Carmel Reformed Church.

     Gloria Fischer was born June 12, 1926 in Sioux City, IA to Milton and Lola (Roberts) Kreamer.  She received her education and graduated from East High School in Sioux City, IA and then continued her education by earning her Registered Nursing degree from the Methodist School of Nursing at St. Luke’s in Sioux City.  Gloria found her passion in nursing specializing in obstetrics and prematurely born babies.  She was instrumental in helping to develop the first preemie ICU unit which is now called the NICU neonatal intensive care unit.  She made many trips by air to Iowa City to help sick babies.  She found her career very satisfying and touched many family’s lives. 

     On May 20, 1950 she was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Fischer at the First Methodist Church in Sioux City, IA.  To this union were born two boys, Joseph “Scott” and Rex.  In 1970 Gloria and her family moved to Carmel, IA where she continued working in the nursing field at Sioux Center Community Hospital. 

     For many years Gloria and Dick have been members of the Carmel Reformed Church which provided them many good friends and memories. 

     She is survived by her sons, J. Scott (Vicki) Fischer of Rock Valley, IA and Rex M. (Lana) Fischer of Sioux City, IA; five grandchildren, Eric (Jill) Fischer of Omaha, NE and their children, Ethan and Samara; Brian (Carya) Fischer of Cedar Rapids, IA and their children Cavan and Jonah, Dr. Joshua (spouse) Fischer of Colorado, Kelly Jo Fischer of Sioux Calls, SD, Daniel (Nicole) Fischer of Sioux Center; and other extended family members.

     Gloria was proceeded in death by her parents, Milton and Lola Kreamer; husband Dick Fischer; sister, Joyce Vastine.
