After discharge from the Army, Harold attended the University of Houston in Texas. After graduation, he began his 26-year career as a test engineer at the Farm Equipment Engineering Center of International Harvester in Hinsdale, Illinois.

This is where he enjoyed many years growing a big garden and several kinds of fruit trees. Much of the produce was donated to Mid-Sioux Opportunity in Sioux Center.   He also enjoyed hunting and trapping.

In 2016, Harold and Alyce moved to Crown Pointe Retirement Center in Sioux Center. Harold and Alyce became members of First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center.
