Harriet A. Snieder

February 13, 1927 — March 29, 2023

    Harriet Snieder 96, of Sioux Center, Iowa died Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Crown Pointe Estates in Sioux Center, Iowa.

     A family prayer service will be held at 9:15 on Friday, March 31, 2023, at the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.   The graveside service will follow the prayer service in Memory Garden Cemetery in Sioux Center. 

     A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, March 31, 2023, at the United Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. Jon Bushnell officiating.  

      Harriet Angeline (Ter Horst) was born on February 13, 1927 to parents Bert and Gertrude Ter Horst at rural Alton, Iowa. As a child she lived in rural Alton and attended a country school there until she transferred to Orange City Christian School. Later her family moved to a farm by Ireton, IA.

     On Feb 5, 1950 she was united in marriage to Warren Snieder.  They were married for 62  years.

The couple made their home in Sioux Center where Warren operated a farm water systems service for the local farmers. For forty years she assisted in the pump service answering phone calls and selling parts to farmers.

     Warren and Harriet had 4 daughters: Dawn Van Den Hul (Herm), Twila Finkelstein (Mike, deceased) LuAnn Van Den Berg (Ron), and Linda Vogel (Loren).

     Harriet and Warren were members of Bethel Christian Reformed Church for many years.  They later joined the United Reformed Church in Sioux Center.

     Her grandchildren and great grandchildren have fond memories of the delicious food she prepared: raisin cinnamon bread, brownies, and chocolate chip cookies.

Her grandchildren remember her for exemplifying what it is to live a kind and caring life.  They have also commented that she was an example of grace and humility.

     Harriet was a skilled seamstress who sewed clothes for her children, and later quilted, making many wall hangings and quilts.

She is survived by her daughters; 11 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, and her 2 siblings, Clara Hoekstra and Lawrence Ter Horst.
