Hazel was joined in marriage to the love of her life, Bernard Nibbelink on October 21, 1953. The couple enjoyed many years together, including wintering in Mesa, Arizona, where they cultivated many close friendships.

She continued working until she retired at the age of eighty-four.

She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, where she served as a pastoral worker and was involved in Gleaners Forum Bible Study and other groups. Hazel also served on the county Cancer Board, including time as the board secretary.

She was a great friend to many and enjoyed gardening and flowers. She loved time with family and friends and a good cup of coffee. Hazel was competitive and enjoyed games, jigsaw puzzles, and watching gameshows.
