Henrietta "June" Van Den Berg

     Henrietta “June” Van Den Berg, age 95, of Sioux Center, Iowa died Monday, October 12, 2020 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center, IA.

     A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday October 15, 2020 at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center, IA with Pastor Wayne Sneller officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

     Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 14^th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home at Sioux Center. Family will not be present.

     Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks are recommended.

     The Van Den Berg Family request Memorials be designated to Royale Meadows Care Center or Central Reformed Church. 

     Henrietta “June” Van Den Berg was born June 12, 1925 to William H. and Carrie (VerSteeg) Boone in Sanborn, IA. She grew up in the Sioux Center and surrounding area. She was the 3rd child born in a family of 14 and had many great childhood memories. She recalled that being part of a big family required a lot of chores and teamwork. One of her main chores was “those darn socks!” One memory that sticks out was when her family came down with scarlet fever. Throughout the years she reminisced about that time span a lot. Being quarantined for five months (from January to May), dealing with the many hardships, and losing her brother Kenny shaped her faith and shaped her love and appreciation for the important things in life.

     June and Ted met at a skating rink, and their love grew fonder through the many letters that were written while he was overseas.   June married Theodore “Ted” Van Den Berg on February 2, 1945 in Sioux Center while Ted was home on furlough. They only dated for 3 months and were told, “it’s never going to work, it’s never going to work!”   For 63 years they loved each other through the good times and bad, and they made it work. Their love for God, their love for each other, and their love for their family never wavered. June’s love for her husband of 63 years and her family will be one of the many things she is remembered by.   Coming from a large family herself, it is no wonder she had 7 children of her own. She stayed very busy as a homemaker keeping everyone in line. She attended countless school and church functions for her children and made habit of being involved.

     She had a loving relationship with her Lord and Savior. She was a member of Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center where she attended and led many Bible studies and served on various committees and activities within church.  

     Another passion of June’s was her flowers. She took pride in her flower gardens and helped supply many arrangements for church. She was part of a group of ladies called “The Patch and Darn Club”. These ladies had fun getting together to work on projects in each other’s homes and enjoyed good desserts. These weekly neighborhood coffee outings and desserts with the ladies was something she looked forward to.

     June looked forward to their annual vacations on Potato Lake with their children and grandchildren. They vacationed there for 50 plus years and countless memories were made. In their latter years, June and Ted wintered in Texas for 26 years. They did volunteer work at the orphanage in Renosa and loved spending time with friends.

     They enjoyed eating out and putting on skits for entertainment. For years they had their weekly Saturday night dates. She looked forward to the many visits with kids and grandkids throughout the week and was a prayer warrior for all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She’ll always be remembered for her love for the Lord, the love for her family, and her love of prayer.

     Left to cherish her memory are her six children, Denny and Carol Van Den Berg, Ron and LuAnn Van Den Berg, Brenda and Gilly DeGoei, Julie and Gerry Franken, Mary and Doug Vander Stoep, all of Sioux Center, IA and Pam and Dave Korver of Maurice, IA. She was blessed with 22 grandchildren; and 56 great-grandchildren; and was proud of her large family. She is also survived by sisters, Joan Den Hartog of Sioux Center, Lillian Hogan of Artesia, CA, Carol and Ray Sneller of Sioux Falls, SD, Audrey Gesink of Orange City, IA, Karen and Irv De Boer of Sioux Center, IA, Judy and Ivan Friese of New Ulm, MN, Ruth and Gib Meyer of Sioux Center, IA; one brother, Ray and Hazel Boone of Jacksonville, TX; sisters-in-law, Ruth (Vern) Boone, Donna (Marv) Boone, both of Sioux Center, Ruth (Alvin) Van Den Berg of Ireton, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

     Preceding June in death were her husband of 63 years, Ted; infant son, Kirk; infant great-granddaughter, Josie Franken; her parents, William H. and Carrie Boone; father and mother-in-law, William G. and Anna (Juffer) Van Den Berg; brothers, William D. Boone, Vernon Boone, Marvin Boone, and Kenneth Boone; sister, Ann (Jim) Cochran; sisters and brothers-in-law, Paul Van Hartog, Elmer Gesink, Gary and Mary Van Den Berg, Clarence and Lois Van Den Berg, and Alvin (Knobby) Van Den Berg.
