She grew up on the family farm, near Lebanon, and attended country school. After her education she worked for neighbors and other families, doing household chores and raising the children.  After leaving the Lebanon farm, and moving to Sioux Center, with her parents, she worked at the jeans factory in Sheldon, IA, until her marriage to Klaas Knibbe.  Henrietta was united in marriage to Klaas Knibbe on March 29, 1967.  KIaas was a widower, at the time, with seven children.

They made their home on an acreage near Sioux Center, Iowa, until her husband, Klaas, passed away in 1988.  She continued to live there on her own until 2000, when she moved to a condo in Sioux Center.

She was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Church in Sioux Center.   She enjoyed letters, cards, pictures and communicating with friends across the country and in the Netherlands.  She traveled to the Netherlands several times to visit family there.  Her highlights of the year were the annual Knibbe family reunion and the holiday visits from various family members, and the weekly family visits with her siblings.  She enjoyed listening to sermons on tape and being involved in the church.  She enjoyed puzzles and popcorn, working on genealogy, and looking at old family photos.
