Hermina Beernink, age 86, of Sioux Center, IA died Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center, IA.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday, October 4th, 2019 at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. Stephen Breen officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 3rd from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with family present at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
Hermina Beernink was born on August 30, 1933 at the family farm near Sheldon, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Hattie (Van Oort) Vander Maten. She attended Newkirk School and graduated in 1950.
She was united in marriage to Eugene Beernink on February 4, 1953 at the Middleburg Reformed Church. Together they started out living in Ft. Crowder, MO for 18 months, while Eugene served in the U.S. Army. After he received his discharge, they moved to a farm northwest of Maurice, IA, where they lived for the next 19 years. In 1974 they moved to a home in Sioux Center, IA. Hermina worked several jobs over the years, then in 1990 she began working at Walmart in Sioux Center as a greeter for the next 21 years.
Hermina was a member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, active with the Lydia Circle and sang in the church choir. She enjoyed playing cards and games; enjoyed many years of vacationing in sunny Arizona. She was known as a loving person who never had a cross word.
Hermina is survived by her husband of 66 years, Eugene Beernink of Sioux Center, IA; son, Greg (Connie) Beernink of Orange City, IA; daughter-in-law, Kathy Beernink of Estherville, IA; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cia Vander Ploeg of Sheldon, IA and Kaye (Herb) Kuyper of Sioux Center, IA; brother, Herman (Marilyn) Vander Maten of Surprise, AZ; two brothers-in-law, Darrell (Alyce) Beernink of Normal, IL and Howard (Marge) Beernink of Sioux Center, IA and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Hattie Vander Maten; her son, Randy Beernink; sisters and brothers, Allie (Myron) Korver, Jenieva (Peter) Kastein, John Vander Maten, Hans (Millie) Vander Maten, Gert (Bill) Huisman, Bill (Ann) Vander Maten, and Harriet (Wilbur) Harmelink; and step-grandson, Greg Nieman.
