     Hertilda "Herkie" Davelaar age 82 of Sioux Center, Iowa died Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Sioux Center Health.

     Funeral services will be 10:30AM Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Reverend John Lee, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery at Sioux Center.

     Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-7PM with family present from 5-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

     In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Crossroads Prison Ministries or a charity of your choice.

  

 Hertilda Mae “Herkie” Nobel was born on January 20, 1939 to Henry and Hilda (Moorlag) Nobel in Hull, Iowa.  She grew up in Sioux Center and graduated from Sioux Center High School in May, 1956  On February 22, 1957 she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Davelaar at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, Iowa.  They made their home in Minnesota for a short time before moving back to the Sioux Center area where they lived on a farm Southwest of town.  They farmed and raised their four children, Wendell, Dan, Mark and Brent.  They moved into Sioux Center in 2010.  
     Herkie was an active member at Bethel Christian Reformed Church and was a part of the Harmony Workers.  She was an avid quilter and made sure each of her children and grandchildren received her quilts.  She also made her grandchildren a Christmas ornament every year.  She enjoyed camping, puzzles, and spending time with her family.  Herkie was a dedicated farmer’s wife until the very end.
    Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 64 years and 2 months, Bill; sons, Wendell (Rose) Davelaar of Hallandale, MN, Dan (Sheila) Davelaar of Marysville, WA, Mark (Lisa) Davelaar of Maurice, IA and Brent (Cindy) Davelaar of Maurice, IA; twelve grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; brother, Bernard (Adeline) Nobel of Milaca, MN; sister, Harriet (Garret) Van Voorst of Inwood, IA; step sister, Margie (Arnie) Brower of Bundy, MN; Marilyn Nobel of Lemars IA, brothers-in-law John (Mary) of Sibley Ia, Arnold (Linda) Anacortes WA,Floyd (Joyce) of Rock Valley IA, Gerrit (Helma) of Inwood IA, Sisters-in-law Carolyn Ploegstra of Denver CO, Florence Kooiman of Crown Point IN, Nelvia (Dave) Sterkenberg of Wyoming MI: along with many extended relatives and friends.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Hilda Nobel; grandchild, Westley Davelaar; two great grandchildren, Nora and Weston Jost; siblings, John Nobel, Joanne Altena (Wayne), Henrietta Schiebout (Chris); brother-in-law Orville Kooiman and sister-in-law Eleanor Davelaar; step brothers, Hank and Stan Swart; step sister, Gertrude Tebben.
