Howard Henry Sandbulte

Howard Sandbulte, age 95 of Sioux Center, IA, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Crown Pointe Estates in Sioux Center.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the Carmel Reformed Church of rural Rock Valley, Iowa with Rev. Marc Scaturro officiating.  The funeral service can be live streamed at the Carmel Reformed Church Facebook page: Carmel Reformed Church

Interment will follow the service in the Carmel Cemetery, with military honors by Pfarrer Fox American Legion Post 0321 of Rock Valley, IA.

Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Monday, January 2^nd, at the Carmel Reformed Church.

Howard Henry Sandbulte was born February 9, 1927, to William and Rebecca Margaret (Wesselink) Sandbulte near Ireton, Iowa.  He attended country school through the eighth grade.  

Howard was joined together in marriage to Bernice Schuiteman on September 15, 1950.   He joined the US Army and was stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma from December 1950 – December 1952.

Farming was a lifelong passion and enjoyed being on his farm near Carmel.  Howard also drove a livestock truck for many years before turning the truck over to his son Gene. 

Howard was a lifelong member of the Carmel Reformed Church.  He served as a Sunday school and a catechism teacher.  He enjoyed singing and participating in Bible studies.  He was a church elder and served on the Carmel cemetery board and oversaw the caretaking of the cemetery for years.

He is survived by six children: Daniel (Joanne) Sandbulte of Allendale, MI, Eugene Sandbulte of Carmel, Alvin Sandbulte of Sioux Center, Calvin Sandbulte of Carmel, Jolene (Loren) Hooyer of Sioux Center, Jim (Carla) Sandbulte of Lincoln, NE; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; siblings: Glen Sandbulte of Winfield, KS, Laura (Jim) Westra of Rock Valley, Rodney (Carol) Sandbulte of Rock Valley.  He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Bernice (Ferd) Tilstra of Hills, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernice in 2021; siblings, infant brother, Henry Bernard Sandbulte; Henrietta (John) Draayer, Sharon (Ed) Kats, John (Hermina) Sandbulte, Lloyd Sandbulte, Duane Sandbulte, Hermina (August) Ykema, Angeline (Calvin) Korver, Iola (Frank) Statema, and Fonda (Richard) Kooistra.
