James Vermeer, 87 of Sioux Center, Iowa died, Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Crown Pointe Care Center of Sioux Center.
A prayer service will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery at Sioux Center, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00PM, Saturday, May 28, 2022, at the New Life Church in Sioux Center, Iowa with Rev. Duane Tinklenberg, officiating.
Visitation will be Friday with family present from 5-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home.
Vermeer family prefers memorials be directed to the Sioux Center Christian School.
James William Vermeer was born on June 1, 1934 in Sioux Center, IA, the son of Bert and Angeline (Vander Schaaf) Vermeer. He was raised on a family farm and attended country school and one semester at Sioux Center High School. After his education he worked the family farm; raising hogs, feeding cattle and growing crops.
James was united in marriage to his lifelong mate, Gertrude Ver Mulm on February 3, 1954 at Rock Valley. Together they most of their lives working side by side on their farm, 2 ½ miles east of Sioux Center. They enjoyed their time on the farm, raising their three children, traveling and watching the Twins and college basketball.
In 1991, Jim and Gert built their home in Sioux Center. They remained very active with the family farm and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Jim was a charter member of the New Life Reformed Church of Sioux Center.
On April 29, 2005 Jim’s wife Gert died at the age of 71 years.
On March 16, 2012 Jim married Joleen Kaye (Klynsma) Vande Kamp at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center.
In May of 2021 Jim entered the Crown Point Care Center, where he remained until his death, this past Wednesday, May 25, 2022, where he died at the age of 87.
Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his son, Bradley J. (Barbara) Vermeer of Orange City, IA, their children, Belinda (Nathan) Ter Beest and their children, Lucas and Jonah; Brandon (Beth) Vermeer and their children, Dallas, Peyton, Jameson and Emersyn; Brooke (Russell) Knoeppel and their children, Lexi, Lia, Logan and Laci, Bethany Rens and her son, Dexter; daughter, Cheryl (Eugene) Byker of Ireton; and their daughter, Leah Ann (Fiance Jorge Zarate); daughter, Mary Jo (Darrel) Nyhof of Sioux Center, and their children, Renee (Daniel) Wielenga and their children, Nora, Aubrey and Marcus; Gregory (Lora) and their sons, Ethan and Seth.
His wife, of 10 years, Joleen Vermeer of Sioux Center, IA and her family, Arlin Vande Kamp and his children, Aaron and Jenna (fiancé Chad Mencarelli), Carl (Brenda) Vande Kamp and their children, Autumn (Matt) Laman, Owen and Miles, Jade (Jessica) Vande Kamp and their son, Eli, Coral (Ben) Stark, and their children, Stella and Lee; David (Jaci) Vande Kamp, and their children, Samatha (Jeff) Zomer and their children, Dylan, Brooke and Erie, Danielle (Cory) Bonta and their daughter, Sydney; Lynn (Mike) Clark, and their children, Cara and Micayla.
Jim was preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years, Gertrude Vermeer; his parents, Bert and Angeline Vermeer; and his infant brother, Roger Vermeer; Gertrude’s parents, Cornelia (Boscaljan) and Case W. Ver Mulm.
