Jana was born on May 18, 1965 to John G. (Hans) and Eileen Van Voorst in Sioux Center, IA. She was the youngest of six children and the baby of the family. She attended Sioux Center Christian school and Western Christian High School and was a lifetime member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center.
Jana sowed her share of wild oats and met many challenges in her life. She met her husband, Dave Haglund and they were married on July 12, 1997. Jana always had a special place in her heart for all children, especially her boys and her nephews and nieces. She worked as a paraprofessional with the Sioux Center Community Schools. Since her 2 sons were born, she was tenacious about all things related to Autism. Even while fighting her own demons, she tirelessly fought for Autism awareness, their rights, and the need for support for all autistic kids and their families. She was also first in line to support all other parents of autistic children and made many lifetime friends along the way. Quoting one friend, “Jana could turn any storm into a rainbow”. That sounds right since she loved rainbows and purple butterflies.
Jana is survived by her husband, Dave Haglund, her two sons, Skyler and Keegan, two sisters, Carol (Arvin) Prinsen and Joyce (Arlin) Leusink, three brothers, Dennis (Sherry), Randy (Marie) and Phil (Sherrie) Van Voorst; father-in-law, Willard (Linda) Haglund of Dayton, IA; mother-in-law, Mary Haglund of Boone, IA; sister-in-law, Becca (Tracy) Anderson of Boone, IA; 15 nieces and nephews, 37 great-nieces and nephews and 13 great-great-nieces and nephews, along with many loving in-laws. Most will readily tell you that, “Auntie Jana Banana gave the best hugs”.
Jana is preceded in death by her father, John G. Van Voorst and her mother, Eileen Van Voorst.
