Jason Matthew De Wit was born March 31, 1989, the son of Lyle and Pam (Wynja) De Wit.  He grew up in Ireton, Iowa.  He was baptized and made his profession of faith at the Christian Reformed Church.  Jason was diagnosed with Becker’s Muscular Dystrophy at the age of 10.  He was a very determined young man and continued to go to Ireton Christian School daily, even with his struggles to walk.  He went to Unity Christian High School and his pride and joy were driving his GMC Sonoma Chevy Truck to school each day.  He wore the biggest grin when he was able to walk across the stage for his Highschool Graduation.  He received a standing ovation at that time and the whole school knew what an accomplishment that was for him.

Jason was a member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church and attended cadets in grades 4-8.  He was also a member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  He built his personal computer, built model cars, and loved to do puzzles.

Jason moved to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home on April 16, 2014.  That day, Jason gave up the fight to walk as that was the last day he stood on his own and took his last steps.  This was Jason’s home for the next 10 years until the day he passed away.  The staff at good Sam was phenomenal and they took such good care of him.   He would have the CAN’s laughing with his sarcastic humor.  They were the hands and feet for Jesus for those 10 years with their compassion and care for him.  They were there for him when his family couldn’t be.

Jason was a quiet soul who spoke very few words.  His smile, however, could tell a story.

Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Lyle and Pam of Sioux Center, IA; siblings, Shawna (Jess) De Wit of George, IA and Cassie De Wit (Robert Daniels) of Paullina, IA; nephews and nieces, Caleb, Kylie, Conner, Addison, and Trey; grandparents, Verdean and Ardith Wynja of Sioux Center, IA; along with many cousins, aunts, uncles, and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gloria (De Boer) Wynja, and Martin and Joy (Van Oort) De Wit.
