Jay Broek

      Jay Broek, age 78, of Sioux Center, IA died Friday, April 17, 2020 at his home in Sioux Center, IA.


     There will be a private family service held on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton, IA.

 

     Memorials may be directed to the Ireton Christian School and the Unity Christian High School.

     Jay Elroy Broek was born March 27, 1942 in Sioux County IA, the son of David and Cornelia (Vande Garde) Broek. He graduated from Western Christian High School. On August 9, 1963 he was united in marriage to Marlene Bonnema at the Lebanon Christian Reformed Church. The young couple began their lives together living in Sioux Center. Jay started a business in Ireton called Jay’s/Ireton Body Shop which he operated from 1963 until 2003. He also worked at Lem’s Auto Recyclers in Doon from 2003 until 2019. Jay and Marlene lived in Ireton from 1964 until moving to Sioux Center in 2014.

    

     Jay was a member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church where he served as a deacon and elder. Jay was most recently a member of First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. He was a member of the Ireton Christian School Board and the Ireton City Council.

    

     He enjoyed boating with his family, camping, attending kids and grandkids many activities and sporting events, coffee time and Bible study with friends.

 

     Jay is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marlene Broek; son, Doug (Audrey) Broek of Ireton, IA, daughter, Melody Reuvers of Boyden, IA, and son, Craig (Jeanine) Broek of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Nathan Broek, Lindsey (Joel Kostelyk) and Mikaela Broek, Damion and Josiah Reuvers, Ellen and Cora Mae Broek. Brothers, Darwin (Evanette) Broek and Roger (Linda) Broek; in-laws, Leora (John) Van Middendorp, Gerv (Helen) Bonnema, Cheryl Frost, Joyce Williams, Duane (LeaAnn) Bonnema.

 

     He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Cornelia Broek; granddaughter, Lillian Kopaska Broek; son-in-law, Doug Reuvers; parents-in-law, Melvin and Gertie Bonnema; and brother-in-law, Gary Frost.
