A visitation with family present will be held from 1-2 PM on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Jean (Ledeboer) Peters was born on March 24, 1935, to Albert and Clara (Zuidema) Ledeboer of Prinsburg, Minnesota. Jean grew up on the family farm near Prinsburg; graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa; and attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan where she earned her teaching certificate. She served as an elementary teacher at Rock Valley Christian School and later at Hull Christian School in the same capacity.

Jean and her husband, Joel Peters, were married July 26, 1956 in Prinsburg, Minnesota. They initially lived in Hull, Iowa where Joel had started a grocery store. They later moved to Sioux Center and established their residence and grocery store there. They were blessed with four daughters within the first ten years of their marriage. Jean and Joel relocated in 1986 to Mesa, Arizona and later to Escondido, California, before retiring to Mesa in 2000.

Jean served as librarian at Calvin Christian School in Escondido. Her love for books and reading was evident throughout her life; her extensive collection of Bibles and religious commentaries evidenced this passion. Over the years, she was actively involved in church ministries and Bible Study Fellowship.  Jean  treasured her family for whom she prayed faithfully. Those who knew her were blessed by her kind and gracious spirit.

Her children and family were the joy of her life.  She is survived by her husband of more than 65 years, Joel, of Mesa, Arizona; four daughters, Janice (Brent) Assink of Pasadena, CA, Cathleen (Everett) Hoekstra of Suwanee, GA, Laura (Marvin) Leusink of Escalon, CA, and Amy (David) Groen of Dallas Center, IA; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren; siblings Harriet (Robert) Hasper of Grand Rapids, MI, Connie (Daryl) Berghuis of Alexandria, MN, and Alvin (Charlene) Ledeboer of Kamiah, ID; and sister-in-law Harriet De Stigter of Redlands, CA.

In addition to her parents and her husband’s parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and their husbands, Luella  (Melvin) Swart and Beatrice (Luverne) Kleinhuizen; brother-in-law Roger De Stigter; and one stillborn great-grandchild.

Memorials may be directed to Dordt University (dordt.edu/giving) or Bible Study Fellowship (bsfinternational.org).

The Funeral Service will be livestreamed on the Memorial Funeral Home Website on Wednesday afternoon.
