Joan Brenneman

     Joan Brenneman, age 98, of Sioux Center, IA died Friday, May 1, 2020 at Sanford Senior Care of Sheldon, Iowa.

     Due to the mandated health care precautions, a private family service will be held Tuesday, May 5th at 1:30 p.m. Burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, IA.

     Joan Brenneman was born to Isaac and Jennie (Groeneveld) Van Der Schaaf on September 7, 1921. Joan was raised on the family farm Southwest of Sioux Center.

     Joan graduated from Sioux Center High School and attended Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa. She received her teaching degree and taught Country School for 6 years.

     On December 29, 1948 she married Arthur William Brenneman at First Reformed Church of Sioux Center, Iowa. They made their home a mile west of Sioux Center where they lived and raised their two children Arvin and Jeanine. In 2001 they moved to the Regency in Sioux Center.

     She was a faithful and lifelong member of First Reformed Church. She was active in the church teaching Sunday School, Catechism, and involved for many years with various Bible Study Circles. She also enjoyed working as a Nurses Aid in the Sioux Center Nursing Home from 1980 to 1988.

     Joan also loved to travel with her husband to visit family and friends. They made many trips to Arkansas where their daughter Jeanine lives. She spent a lot of time with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved them all dearly.

     Joan is survived by one son, Arvin (Shelly) Brenneman of Sioux Center; one daughter Jeanine (Sergei)Pidukov of Bentonville, AR; along with seven grandchildren:  Pam (Seth) Mock, Joshua (Amanda)Brenneman, Stacey (Adam) Bradshaw, Heather (Sam) Lundgren, Tonya (Mike) Green, Austin Gramstad, Nikki (Dan) Fischer, and eleven great-grandchildren, Zedekiah, Layla, Judah Mock, Bailey Brenneman, Jace and Jerzi Bradshaw, Everett and Clark Lundgren and Paisley, Fallyn and Lenyx Fischer; two sister in-laws and one brother-in-law Adeline Brenneman and Anna Mae and Don Broek along with several nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her husband, Joan was preceded in death by her parents; and infant daughter, Jane; an infant granddaughter, Jill; daughter-in-law, Janet Brenneman; brothers, Andrew, John, Henry; one sister, Nettie Van Der Schaaf; two sisters-in-law, Ardene Van Der Schaaf and Louise Van Der Schaaf. Sister-in-law’s and brother-in-law’s Tracy and John Hoogland, Andrew and Joanne Brenneman, Bertha and Harvey Vermeer, Wilmina and Martin Wynia and Herman Brenneman.
