Joan Kooi, age 88, of Sioux Center, IA, formerly of Lockport, NY died Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at her residence in Sioux Center, IA.
A Kooi family will be holding a celebration of life at a later date.
Joan Ognibene Kooi was born October 4, 1931 in Lockport, New York, the daughter of Francis and Grace (MacDonald) Rowley. Joan married Samuel Ognibene in 1953. They were the married in the First Baptist Church in Lockport, NY. Joan and Sam were blessed with 2 children, Louanne and Gary. Joan was a homemaker while her children were young and later was employed with the Niagara County Nutrition. In 1991 they began wintering in Avon Park, FL and moved there permanently in 1995. They were members of Avon Park Congregational Church. In 2007 Joan’s husband, Sam passed away.
On November 30, 2010 Joan married Lane Kooi of Sioux Center, IA. Together they lived in Sioux Center where they lived the remainder of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Lane Kooi of Sioux Center, IA; son, Gary Ognibene of Magnolia, TX; son-in-law, Wayne Howard of Salem, IL; granddaughter, Christiana (husband, James) Nelson of Breman, IN; grandsons, Tony (wife, Kelly) Ognibene of Oroville, CA, Gene (wife, Robin) Ognibene of San Antonio, TX and Micah Howard of Chicago, IL; great-grandchildren, Corban, Jadon, Jeuel, Carmi and Danielle Nelson of Breman, IN, Alissa and Danielle Ognibene of Oroville, CA; brother, John (wife, Diane) Rowley of Chapin, SC; sister, Judy Murphy of Newfane, NY; four step-daughters, Suzanne (husband, Richard) Sheraden of Sebring, FL, Marjorie Oolman of Orange City, IA, Lois (husband, Larry) Keizer of Watertown, SD and Barbara (husband, Lyle) Wielenga of Avon, SD; fifteen step-grandchildren; thirty-nine step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Grace Rowley; husband Sam Ognibene; a daughter, Louanne Howard in 1983.
