Joan Maassen of Rock Valley, Iowa died Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Hegg Health Center in Rock Valley, IA.
Memorial service will be 10:30 AM Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the Netherlands Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. H. Hofman officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.
A time of visitation will take place Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:30 at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
In lieu of flowers, family prefer memorials which will be directed to Sioux Center Hospice and Hope Haven.
Joan Maassen was born September 15, 1934 near Carmel, IA to Jacob and Sophia (Van Ravenswaay) Dibbet. She was raised in the Carmel area and attended country school.
On September 23, 1952 she was united in marriage to Raymond Maassen in Sioux Center. Joan and Ray farmed near Rock Valley for 38 years before they moved to Rock Valley in 1991. Ray passed away in April of 2007 after 54 years of marriage.
Family has always been very important to Joan. She was a great cook and made the best cakes for her family. She always added a little extra sugar and a lot of love. She was a loving mother to each one of her large family and always had time to share. She cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her one great-great grandchild.
Joan is survived by her 12 children: Ronald and Joyce (Van Den Top) Maassen of Boyden, Daryl and Darlene (Van Den Top) Maassen of Doon, Marlin Maassen of Rock Valley, Sharla and Jim Boon of Rock Valley, John and Judy (den Hoed) Maassen of Rock Valley, Thomas and Paula (Van Veldhuizen) Maassen of Rock Valley, David and Lisa (Van Beek) Maassen of Hudson, SD, James and Renita (Schelling) Maassen of Sioux Center, Paul Maassen of Canton, SD, Shelley Maassen of Rock Valley, Mary and Dean Maassen of Valley Springs, SD, Timothy and Carrie (Bakker) Maassen of Rock Valley, and Tamela and Terry Van Beek of Inwood, IA; 52 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; brother, Jacob Dibbet of Sioux Center; sister, Arlene Hoogendoorn of Rock Valley and sister-in-law, Girlie Dibbet of Sioux Center; sister-in-law, Sally Koedam of Sheldon, IA; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob, and Sophia Dibbet; husband, Ray; sons, Daniel and Christian; parents-in-law, Maas and Tillie Maassen; brothers, John and Richard; sisters, Alice Van Voorst, Gertrude Draayer; grandchildren, Sheila Maassen, Logan Maassen, Collin Van Beek and Danita Vollink.
