Joshua Van Roekel, 35, of Sioux Center, Iowa died, Sunday, March 1, 2020 at the Avera McKennen Medical Center of Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, March 6, 2020 at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Dr. Travis Else officiating. Burial will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
Visitation will be held on Thursday March 5, 2020 from 4-8pm with the family present from 5-8pm at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

Joshua John Van Roekel was born January 21, 1985 to Mike and Judy (Boersma) Van Roekel in Sioux Center, Iowa. He was raised in Sioux Center and attended Sioux Center Community Schools. He participated in sports in school, such as football and track. He also was active in Boy Scouts of America and earned his Eagle Scout Honors. He graduated from SCHS in 2003. Josh continued his education at DeVry University in Kansas City, MO and earned a degree in Electronic Engineering.
He worked at Coilcraft in Hawarden, IA and as a farm hand for Jim Vonk. On September 9, 2017 Joshua and his two children, Aspen and Tristan were married to Natalie Johnson. They were blessed with the birth of a third child, Cephas Van Roekel in 2019.
Joshua was a member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He was also active with HOME Ministries. He enjoyed many activities such as hunting, archery, gardening, home remodeling and wood working. Most of all, he found running his passion. While running he was able to deal with his daily stress and also enjoy time for prayer for himself and all those he knew and loved.
He is survived by his wife, Natalie Van Roekel of Sioux Center, IA; three children, Aspen, Tristan and Cephas Van Roekel; parents, Mike and Judy Van Roekel of Sioux Center, IA; parents-in-law, Craig and Sarah Johnson of New Richmond, WI; a sister, Shawna and Nathan Vander Plaats of Lennox, SD; a nephew, Keegan Vander Plaats; two brothers-in-law, Zach Johnson of Spearfish, SD and Zeb and CJ Johnson of Rapid City, SD; and several other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Serenity Michelle Van Roekel; paternal grandparents, John G.A. and Martha Van Roekel; maternal grandparents, Cornelius and Goldie Boersma.
