Karen Vander Ploeg

      Karen Vander Ploeg, age 65 of Sioux Center, Iowa went to be with her Lord, Monday, December 7, 2020 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

    A funeral service will be held at 2PM on Monday, December 14, 2020 at the Faith Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Bob Pollema, Rev. Cliff Hoekstra and Rev. Dave Smit officiating.  Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

     Public visitation will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, Iowa.  The family will not be present.

    Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks are required.

     Karen Lynnae Vander Ploeg was born July 14, 1955 in Sioux Center to Marvin and Alberta (Vande Pol) Vander Wilt.  She was raised in Hull, IA and graduated from Western Christian High School.  On April 21, 1984 she was married to Bruce Allen Vander Ploeg at Hull First Christian Reformed Church.  They were blessed with a special son, Brent.

         Karen loved old picture books and was known for her card ministry.  She loved to send cards and letters of encouragement to her family, friends, and family at Faith Church.

     Karen worked was a homemaker for her family and also worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide caring for the elderly of Sioux Center Hospital.    She will be greatly missed.

     She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Bruce Alan Vander Ploeg and son, Brent Vander Ploeg both of Sioux Center; sister, Marge (Don) Van Voorst of Sioux Center; sister-in-law, Cathy (Cory) Scaaf of Michigan; and brother-in-law, Arlen (Sally) Vander Ploeg of Arizona; step siblings, Pat and Harlan Moss, Paula Huston, Phil and Dawn Roskamp, Palmer Roskamp, Preston Roskamp, Dave and Nancy Van Holland, Rolen and Mary Van Zee, TJ and Eloise Klay; and many nieces and nephews.

     Karen was preceded in death by her parents; Bruce’s parents; a sister in infancy, Lynda Beth; and brother-in-law, Doug Vander Ploeg.
