Larry Armstrong Memorial Folder
Larry Dale Armstrong was born April 12, 1951 to Lloyd and Gladys (Christiansen) Armstrong in Mankato, Minnesota. He was raised in Truman, Minnesota and moved to Jackson, Minnesota in his Junior year of high school, where his parents taught school. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1969, attended South Dakota State University on a football scholarship, and graduated with a baseball scholarship from Winona State in 1973. Upon his graduation, he entered Air Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida, then entered Naval Flight Officer Training, was commissioned an Ensign in 1974, and was medically retired from the United States Navy in 1975. He later worked for the Department of Disabled Veterans before entering Chiropractic School, which was encouraged by his former college roommate. He graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in March of 1985. Following graduation, he moved to Hawarden, Iowa to work for Dr. Larry Dixon. On May 26, 1984 he was united in marriage to Kathleen Norkus in Galena, Illinois. He later bought Hawarden Chiropractic. He and his wife moved their family to Sioux Center in 2000 after being encouraged by patients to open what became Sioux Center Chiropractic Wellness Clinic. His son, Tyler, joined the practice in 2014, and his daughter-in-law, Tiffany joined the practice in 2015. In May of 2017 Larry opened Orthomolecular Integrative Infusion Center, helping others like himself through October of 2019.
Larry was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church, member of the Disabled American Veterans, and was a member of the Hawarden City Council for 10 years. Larry enjoyed golf, cars, music CDs & LPs, and guns. He thoroughly enjoyed sports. He coached both Tyler and Kelsy’s basketball travel teams from 5th to 8th grade. These were some of their best memories with their Dad and all the many players and families on those teams. He loved having pets and was always willing to take in strays that wandered his way. Larry was an ongoing student of health and wellness and had a passion for helping others.
Faith and family were very important to him. Some of his favorite memories were living to see Tyler graduate from college and chiropractic school, seeing Kelsy graduate from graduate school for Marine Biology, being a part of Tyler and Tiffany’s wedding, and becoming a Papa to TJ & Henley.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 35 years, Kathleen; children, Tyler (Tiffany) Armstrong of Sioux Center, IA, and Kelsy Armstrong of Richmond, VA; 2 grandchildren, TJ & Henly; sister Deb (Lloyd) Jessen of West Des Moines; and many extended family.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lloyd and Gladys Armstrong.
Throughout his life, Dr. Armstrong has made it his goal to live according to this motto, and help others do the same:
Work and live to serve others, to leave the world a little better than you found it and garner for yourself as much peace of mind as you can. This is happiness.
