Lena De Vries

     Lena DeVries, 97, of Sioux Center, Iowa died May 27, 2022, at Crown Pointe Care Center in Sioux Center.

 

     Funeral services will held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Centerpoint Church in Sioux Center with Rev. Stephen Breen officiating.  Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

     A visitation with family present will be held from 1-2 PM on Wednesday, June 1 in the Centerpoint Church sanctuary.  Lunch will follow interment in the Centerpoint Family Life Center.

     Lena Berdena Kamerman was born to Henry and Johanna (Riphagen) Kamerman at their home near Sioux Center, Iowa.  She attended West Branch #4 country school through the 8th grade.  As a child, she worked diligently helping her mother and doing chores on the farm.  She later moved to Winnebago, Nebraska where she worked with the Indian Mission as a cook and provided assistance with the boys’ dorm. Lena later moved to Hull, Iowa where she worked at the hospital for 6 years as a nurse’s aide.

     On November 12, 1952, Lena was joined in marriage to Gerben De Vries and became a loving mother to Jeanine and Ranae.

Lena was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, Iowa where she made profession of her faith on Easter morning of 1941.  Lena served in the Women’s Guild and was a member of the Lydia Circle.  She was a part of the Quilters that made quilts for the needy.  She taught Vacation Bible School and catechism for many years. 

     She was fond of gardening both vegetables and flowers, baking and having friends over for coffee.  She enjoyed volunteering at the nursing home and attending her grandchildren’s activities.   

     She is survived by her two daughters, Jeanine (Alvin) Kraayenbrink of Dallas Center, IA and Ranae (Elmer) Zomermaand of Sioux Center, IA; 9 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 35 great great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Earl DeJong of Orange City, IA as well as numerous other family members.

     Lena was preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant daughter, Jan Anita De Vries; two brothers: Russell (Mable) Kamerman; Art (Ann) Kamerman; and sister, Bernetta De Jong.

     Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
