Lloyd Van Roekel

Lloyd Van Roekel, 93, of Sioux Center, IA, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:30 AM at the New Life Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church on Friday.  Funeral service live-stream: Lloyd Van Roekel Service

In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Justice for All.

Lloyd Van Roekel was born on May 16, 1929, to Albert and Cena (Doornwaard) Van Roekel. He was a graduate of Sioux Center High School. As a young man Lloyd farmed right outside of Sioux Center.

Lloyd married Elma Van De Berg on June 28, 1951.  Lloyd served in the US Army,1951-1953 stationed in Ft. Knox, Kentucky for most of the time.

Following Lloyd’s discharge from the army, they returned to Sioux Center where Lloyd farmed. In 1961, they moved to a farm near Newkirk where Lloyd farmed full time till 1988 and continued to help his son farm for a number of years.

In 1988, Lloyd and Elma moved to Sioux Center. Lloyd had a part time job with Interstates Electric as well as helping out on the farm. In his spare time, he enjoyed making toy wooden cars and trucks. He and Walt Blom made over 48,000 cars that were sent with Hope Haven wheelchairs to children all over the world. In addition to these small cars. Lloyd made many wooden trucks and doll beds that are cherished by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lloyd and Elma also served through Justice For All making numerous trips to Tennessee and Majestic View Camp in Montana. In addition to his woodworking, Lloyd enjoyed gardening and took special pleasure in visits from his grandchildren.

Lloyd moved to Crown Pointe nursing home in October 2022.

Surviving Lloyd are sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Brenda Van Roekel of Orange City, and Paul and Linda Van Roekel of Sioux Center; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Brian Amundson of Eau Claire, WI, 6 grandchildren. 16 great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wilmer and Wynetta Van De Berg of Sioux Center; three sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Verna and Arend Sandbulte of Duluth, MN, Hendrene and John Zoet of Hull, Ardith and Verdean Wynja of Sioux Center; sister-in-law, Joan Van De Berg of Luverne, MN.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Elma; brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Lois Van Roekel; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Eldora and Harold Van Zandbergen, Mary and Ralph Van De Berg, and brother-in-law, Harold Van De Berg.
