Lois Sietstra, 90, of Boyden, Iowa, died, Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held, Monday, January 13, 2020 at 1PM at the United Presbyterian Church of Boyden, Iowa with Rev. Andrew Hilla officiating.

A family prayer service will be held Monday, January 13, 2020 at 12PM at the United Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow the prayer service in Sheridan Township Cemetery of Boyden.

A visitation with the family present from 3-4:30PM on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at the United Presbyterian Church.  

The family prefer memorials be directed to Beecin Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 250, Sheldon, Iowa 51201.

Lois Maxine Sietstra, daughter of Joe A. and Gertrude (Scholten) Horn, was born May 27, 1929 on the Horn homestead, southwest of Boyden, Iowa. Her love of nature, animals and strong work ethic was nurtured by her days on the Horn family Park Farm.   She graduated from Boyden High School in 1946.

On January 6, 1949, she was united in marriage to Peter Sietstra at the United Presbyterian Church of Boyden. In the summer of 1951, they purchased a house in Boyden that became their family home for 67 years. In March of 2018, Pete and Lois moved to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon, Iowa.

Lois passed away on January 9, 2020, at Fieldcrest Memory Care, reaching the age of 90 years, 7 months and 13 days.

Lois was a member of the Boyden United Presbyterian Church, where she faithfully served in Sunday School, Catechism, and UPWO for many years. She also shared her love of music by leading the children in singing, participating in the church choir and various duets, trios and quartets. Lois served on the Boyden Public Library Board for 30 years.

Lois and Peter also enjoyed many winters in Texas. Lois was fond of camping with friends and family, knitting, crocheting, quilting and mending. She liked playing gin and faithfully attending the activities of her children and grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory: her husband Peter of 71 years; four children: Robert and Wanda Sietstra, Karen Sietstra, Loren and Carla Sietstra all of Boyden, and Carol and Scott Schuerman of Marion, IA; 8 grandchildren: Kimberly and Randy Godtland, Jeffrey and Cara Sietstra, Keith and Anita Sietstra, Rachel and Bryce Boogerd, Chris and Allison Sietstra, Mark and Alex Schuerman, Seth Schuerman and Jay Schuerman and fiancé Tiffany Burns; 13 great-grandchildren: Anna, Thomas, Isaac, Cade, Mia, Teegan, Kase, Lydia, Savannah, Avery, Callie, Levi and Uriah; three sisters: Joyce Vander Haar of Mesa, AZ, Mildred Blankers of Sheldon, IA; and Bonnie and Scott Koehler of Delta CO; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Sietstra of Pella, IA Reka Sietstra of Jenison, MI and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe A. and Gertrude Horn; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Virginia Horn, brothers-in- law: Dwight Vander Haar and Dwight Blankers. Also, Peter’s parents, John and Tena Sietstra; brothers and sisters-in-law: Gerlof and Tillie Vander Baan, Herman and Edith Sietstra, and Martin Sietstra.
