Loretta Vermeer was born January 30, 1937, to Henry and Alyda (Harskamp) Vande Vegte in Sioux Center. As a child, her family lived for a time in Michigan and California before settling on a farm near Hawarden where she graduated from high school.

Loretta was joined in marriage to Clarence De Roon on June 16, 1955. Clarence and Loretta had a daughter, Linda, and resided in Sioux Center. In 1975, Clarence passed away from a heart condition.

In 1981, Loretta decided to blend families with Marvin Vermeer and blessed both families with her unending love and dedication. Marv passed away in 2002.

Loretta had many talents that she shared with others. For many years, she was well known as a seamstress doing alterations in her home, for Bosch’s clothing, and for Willow Hill Bridal. No one would ever pass up on Loretta’s baking and cooking. She worked in the kitchen of Kinsey Elementary School for several years as well as sharing her meals and treats with family and friends. Loretta also volunteered time at the KidZone program at First Reformed Church where she was a longtime member.

Loretta loved working outdoors, spending time in her yard and garden. She enjoyed feeding and watching a variety of songbirds outside her kitchen window. Besides special times with her family, Marv and Loretta spent much time with a group of friends called the “Gang”. In her later years, she especially enjoyed time with her Ruth Circle church friends, girlfriends, and watching the great-grandkids in their activities.

Loretta is survived by four children: Linda (Dan) Gould of Boone, Iowa, Ann Wynia of Sioux Center, Iowa, Marcy (Waylon) Marvin of Creston, Iowa; and Marty (Jennifer) Vermeer of Maxwell, Iowa; 12 grandchildren: Rachel (Cory) Glenn, Ryan (Amy) Wynia, Laura (Max) Desruisseaux, Kyle (Ashley) Wynia, Stephen Vermeer, Kay (Dan) Moore, Mallory (Evan) Heckert, Derek (Abby) Vermeer, Jared (Madisson) Landreth, Brianna (Jonathan) Beltman, Matt Marvin, Melanie (Dane) Welch; 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Russ (Helen) Vande Vegte of Carmel, IA; Sharon (Doc) Watson of Omaha, NE; and Doug (Wanda) Vande Vegte of Lake Andes, SD and numerous nieces and nephews.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband(s); son, Marlin Vermeer; son-in-law, Henry Wynia; two grandsons: Kevin Vermeer and Braden Landreth; brother, Arnold Vande Vegte and a sister, Viola Mulder.
