Marnette Ver Hoef was born May 20, 1941 in Dumont, New Jersey. She was the beloved, only child of Lloyd and Myra (Hasbrouck) Requa. She was raised in Closter, New Jersey. Lloyd was an amatuer photographer, and Marnette was frequently his adored subject. Following graduation from Northern Valley Regional High School in 1959, Marnette ventured west to attend Central College in Pella. As the majorette with her swinging red skirt and white cowboy boots for the Central College Flying Dutchman marching band, she caught the eye of the star basketball forward, Bruce Ver Hoef. He needed all of his sweet-talking skills, and they fell in love. The couple were married June 4, 1963 in Pella, following her college graduation. They made their home and lived the rest of her life in Sioux Center. For most of her married life Marnette was a homemaker and centered her life around her family. She was a wonderful loving mother and focused her life around her two children, Todd Michael and Kimberley Sue. Following the birth of Todd Michael, her parents and beloved Auntie Velma, relocated from New Jersey to be closer to Marnette and her growing family. When both children were launched, Marnette expanded her caring and giving kindness and worked as a Social Worker at the Sioux Center Hospital for 10 years.
Marnette was a very active member of the Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center and served there in many ways over the years. She will always be remembered in the kitchen, working at countless soup suppers, LOGOS and funerals. She had a big hand in the church kitchen remodel and will always be remembered for her organizational and labeling skills! She also served her community with the same selfless attitude. Many committees, 4-H, Blue Birds and Cub Scouts to name a few. She enjoyed crochet, cooking, feeding the birds and was a wonderful hostess to many back-yard gatherings.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce Ver Hoef; son, Todd (Kimberly) Ver Hoef and their children, Brittany, Chloe and Ian; and daughter, Kimberley (Marc) Bergan and their children, Alexandra, Sydney and Avery.
Marnette was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Myra Requa; and granddaughter, Alexandra Marie Bergan.
