Martha Goslinga

April 28, 1920 — November 28, 2022

     Joanna Martha (Dorhout) Vander Plas Goslinga age 102 years and 7 months went to be with her Lord and Savior Nov 28 at the Crowne Pointe Care Center.

     A funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 3, 2022 at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center, with Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating.  Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.  

     A visitation with family present will be held from 1PM until the time of service.

Memorials may be given in Martha’s name to a Christian School of your choice.

Martha was born to Sipka and Johanna (Weijer) Dorhout on April 28, 1920, in Lebanon, IA. She grew up on several farms in the area.  On April 3, 1939, she married Karl Vander Plas. To this union two children were born, Kenneth and Karen. They lived mostly in the Hawarden area during their married life, farming and raising cattle.  They moved to Sioux Center in 1962.  Karl died Nov 30, 1966. 

She worked in Quality Control at Coilcraft Inc in Hawarden for 32 years and retired in 1986.  She married Henry Goslinga in Sept of 1986 and lived in Orange City.  Henry passed away Oct 18, 2007. After having a severe stroke, she lived in Landsmeer in Orange City and then moved to Crowne Pointe, Franken Manor, and the Care Center in Sioux Center.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Karen (Elmer) Kooi and daughter-in-law, Theresa Vander Plas. She is fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Brenda (James) Blankers, Julie (Dennis)Vander Plas, Mary (Tom) Karli, Karl (Milani)Vander Plas, Bradley (Nora) Vander Plas, Kristi (Randy) Ten Pas, Shonna (Jeff) Caswell, Bryan (Natasha) Kooi, Tanya Kooi (Chris Morphew) Janelle Kooi. Stepchildren Donna (Gary) Holmgren, Jan Katzenberger, Dave Breems, Karen (Ben) Cook, Tim (Dawn) Goslinga. She was grandma great / lady bug grandma to 38 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, 21 step-great-great-grandchildren. And a dear sister-in-law, Alberta Dorhout in Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Karl and Henry; son, Kenneth Vander Plas; great-great-grandson, Kenneth Lee Blankers; stepchildren Sue Breems and Gene Katzenberger; five brothers: Pete, Sam, Dick, George, and Clarence Dorhout and three sisters: Gertrude Van Zanten, Ella Hoekman, and Mary Van Kley.
