Marvin H. Rus, age 88, of Sioux Center, IA died Tuesday June 9, 2020 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at the Netherlands Reformed Church of Sioux Center, IA with Rev. H. Hofman, officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. We will be following social distancing guidelines in the sanctuary during the funeral.
A private family prayer service will take place at 9:45 Saturday morning at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center before proceeding to the church for the Funeral.
Visitation with the family present will be held on Friday, June 12th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. We will be following social distancing guidelines in the funeral home during visitation.
In lieu of flowers the Marvin Rus family prefer memorials be directed to the Netherlands Reformed Christian School.
Marvin H. Rus was born May 14, 1932 near Corsica, South Dakota to Jacob and Fannie (Zomer) Rus. He was raised in rural Corsica and received his education at a country school. Marv moved to Iowa to find employment. There, he found both a job and the love of his life, Clazina Rozeboom. The two were married on December 4, 1951 at the Netherlands Reformed Church in Sioux Center. They moved to Corsica and farmed for eight years before moving back to northwest Iowa and settling in Doon. Marv and Clazina owned the East Side Grocery in Doon for one and half years, and then purchased a farm near Lebanon. Marv worked part-time at Tri State Livestock and Heimstra Meat Market. He and Clazina were also janitors at First National Bank for many years. In 1995, they retired from farming and moved to Sioux Center. Marv drove a delivery route for Casey's Bakery for seventeen years.
Marvin was a lifelong member of the Netherlands Reformed Church where he served as Deacon for several years. He loved visiting and spending time with his family and his friends. Marv passed away at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls from complications due to cancer. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Clazina; daughter, Marilyn (Howard) Dekkers of Ireton, IA; daughter, Judy Rus of Sioux Center, IA; son, Jacob (Lisa) Rus of Maurice, IA; daughter, Shirley (Galen) Van Beek of Inwood, IA; and daughter, Frances (Kevin) Van Wyhe of Hawarden, IA; 13 grandchildren and their spouses; 47 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Rozeboom, Esther Rozeboom, Nellie Rozeboom; brothers-in-law, Leonard (Kathy) Rozeboom, Gerrit (Marie) Rozeboom, Henry Rozeboom; sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Neal) Boluyt; and brother-in-law, Tony (Susan) Rozeboom; nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; an infant son; his parents; brothers and sister-in-laws, Cornie (Katherine) Rus, George (Jennie) Rus; sister and brother-in-law, Josie (Jake) Van Roekel; infant brother; sisters-in-law, Gert (Paul) Schelling, Ada Rozeboom, Judy Rozeboom; brothers-in-law, Tunis Rozeboom, Dick Rozeboom, Bill (Jeanette) Rozeboom, and Cozyn Rozeboom.
